painting of the Souix at sea. As it was his first ship he served on. Great
page that you have here, but what was her post war years paint color? My

Comments about the web site: I really enjoyed it very much. It's always
great to see anything relating to those days and if I may quote Joseph Schull
`Those Far Distant Storm tossed Ships' I joined the navy on 24 of July 1952
Who knows we may have had a wet together at the Seaway, Seagull Club or Seahorse
tavern. I retired as A C2CK in 1977. Keep it up. Joe:

Comments about the web site: I joined in 1950, Slackers, what a place
it was! Remember the fire escapes in the Seagull Club? Bloody rope out the
window! The Green Lantern Restaurant, the Fish and Chip shop outside of the
Dockyard, the Duty boat to Shearwater. Drinking the hard stuff in laneways
because "It must be consumed in the home". That dirty old Seaport that we
all knew so well has turned into a Tourist Haven! It certinly doesn't look
like anything I remember! Well here's to us the bunch that swallowed the
anchor, now in our evening years we realize that it was the making of us.
there was nothing that Civilian Life could throw at us that we hadn't had
it ten times worse. Those who were never in the Military have never really
lived a full life. So to all you retired Matelots "Well Done!"

Comments about the web site: Hi, I am doing research, about the Mackenzie
Cairn, the H.M.C.S. Mackenzie, and an official visit to the Cairn site, Summer
1972, by the Governor General of Canada, Rt. Hon. Roland Michener. Locate
wingers ? I was a member of the HMCS Mackenzie, Radar Plotter / Diver, at
the time of the visit and I was on board the ship. When the Official Cruise
ended later in Nanoose Bay, a "Splice the Mainbrace " was declared where
all of us were presented with a photo of the crew with the Governor General,
the map of the ports on the coast including the Mackenzie Cairn, on the cruise.
Years ago I lost the documents and photos in a flooded basement. One other
note, during the time the Navy decided to discontinue the Rum tot a daily
issue at sea. It was on this cruise the Governor General issued the final
"tot". I asked him to sign the Canadian Forces Rum bottle label which he
happily did. I gave it to my girlfriend for safe keeping. When I returned
from a later cruise her Mother threw it out with the trash thinking it was
just that trash. Ha ha. So you see I have no mementos of that period of my
life. I have attempted to contact many sources to replace or duplicate the
with limited success. The "Last Bottle", will never be replaceable, but perhaps
someone may have a photo of me receiving it. Any help or pass along my e-Mail
if you like to any person who might ? Thanks Roy Patrick Pottery Able seaman

years. I would like to meet up with some of the original crew maybe through

Comments about the web site: I was in Huron Division @ Cornwallis
October 1958, then served on the Quebec,Nootka & The Magnificent Last
week was back in Cornwallis for first time since basic training with the
GI'S like Pusser John Campbell, Iron Jaw & Frenchy-Savage. While standing
looking at the Kootnay block a car drove up & a gentleman got ou and
walked over to say "reminising are we?" It turned out he took basic at the
very same time as I. It was that conversation and the changes there now that
made me decide to search for pictures of the "Old Cornwallis" as some buildings
are now gone or are converted. I would especially like to get an arial view
to see the layout again, where the mess hall was in relation to the Gym,
our old block etc. You have a great sit & possibly I may get a contact
with the pictures or knows where navy archives are where I could obtain them
Thanks for adding to my fond memories of exciting youthful times. Bob
